2D Digital Artist (Part-Time)
We are looking to bring a talented 2D digital artist onto our team to help bring the world of Crystal Mancers to life. Crystal Mancers is a roguelike puzzle game set in a magical medieval fantasy world, where wizards known as "Crystal Mancers" race to try and be the first to reach the bottom of the world's most perilous dungeon: The Primordial Cauldron.
We are a young team, so we are seeking primarily early-career applicants or students that are looking to build out their portfolios alongside our team. Because of the nature of puzzle games, much of our art will be fairly simple, and we anticipate the workload to be manageable in a part-time structure.
We are an employee-owned studio, so all hires for permanent and part-time positions will receive a portion of the game's equity as well as monthly pay, which will be negotiated later in the interview process.
Responsibilities:
Create high-quality 2D art assets, including characters, backgrounds, props, and UI elements.
Collaborate with Creative Leads to ensure artistic consistency and alignment with the game’s vision.
Create simple (1-5 frames) animations for characters, UI, and item effects.
Optimize asset resolutions for performance across different platforms.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas to enhance game visuals.
Adapt to feedback and make revisions to meet artistic and gameplay standards.
Requirements:
1-2 years of experience in Digital Art, professional or personal work.
Proficiency in industry-standard tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, Aseprite or similar software.
A strong portfolio showcasing previous art pieces.
Knowledge of game design pipelines and asset integration into game engines like Unity.
Ability to create concept art and translate it into in-game assets.
Understanding of color theory, composition, and visual storytelling.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Time management skills to meet deadlines in a part-time capacity.
Ability to speak and read English at a proficient level.
Nice-to-have Qualifications:
Understanding or experience in 3D modeling (not required at all, but a nice perk).
Familiarity with VFX creation (particle effects, shaders, etc.).
What We Offer:
Fully remote working environment.
Flexible hours, we have a goal-oriented work structure, so no need to clock in at specific hours.
Monthly pay ranging from $400 to $1000 USD, dependent on availability and portfolio.
A portion of Crystal Mancer's profits in the form of fractional equity.
Opportunity for raises in both monthly pay and equity, dependent on performance.
Travel opportunities for gaming conventions throughout 2025 (dependent on location).
No Triple-A nonsense, if we hire you, you are a part of our team, not a cog in the machine. You will never be forced to crunch hours, and any extra work you agree to will be paid overtime.
If you are interested in working with us, please fill out the form below with your name, email address, and a link to your portfolio. If you'd like to send us a copy of your resume as well, please email it to careers@vaniagames.com, along with your name and the role you're applying for.
If you apply to us, we will get back to you to let you know if we'd like to schedule an interview. After the interview, we may offer you a commission payment to make some concept art as the final step of the interview.
We look forward to hearing from you!
